Book Shelf

My old wood bookshelf catching a lot of dust, with a few files here and there and books everywhere. A sculpture of a woman reading a book, a bee hive from our garden, 2 wooden ducks, 2 pine cones and my father’s titanium watch. A few years back this book shelf didn’t mean anything to me. Well, gradually I started reading but the shelf still didn’t mean much.

My father is a bookworm and my mother likes reading books too but, now she reads blog posts and things like that on soaping and skin care products because she has a small business of her own called slowhug. On the other hand I just read for fun but don’t read too much. This book shelf was mostly with the kinda books my father liked, the deep and serious ones and the ones with big words I don’t get. Maybe that’s why it didn’t mean anything to me then. I had a totally different taste of books a couple of years back. The kinda books that I liked were aliens taking over earth, books with lots of pictures and magical trees.

But, now it’s a whole different story. This same bookshelf shows many worlds of its own. With Different authors, pictures, poems, stories, Book Covers and lots more!

Maybe about 2 years back, I started reading Indica. It’s a book on natural history with beautiful pictures and really fascinating things. it was very interesting indeed but it was too much information and felt more like a text book to me so at times I found it boring. In the past few months I have seen a huge change in me. I used to like fantasy and I still do but I also like scifi. I prefer reading books without illustrations so I can imagine the story and the other descriptive stuff myself. And right now I am reading Ishmael written by Danial Quinn. I like getting into the mesterious worlds in the bookshelf.

There’s something that catches my eye every time i pass it. there is always something new and fascinating. Like Calvin & Hobbes for fun and Jim Corbett for thrilling and entertaining stories. And Wendell Berry for soil, farming and food, etc.,

Jim Corbett is one of my favourite authors. He is a British hunter, tracker, naturalist, and author who hunted a number of man-eating tigers and leopards in India. He wrote about Man-Eaters of Kumaon, Jungle Lore, and other books recounting his hunts and experiences. I don’t really know much about Tom Robbins and Wendell Berry but I guess i’ll get into those kind of books in the future.

So I’ve always wanted a book shelf of my own and this is what I have imagined - with the books of authors like Jim Corbet, Daniel Quinn, Pranay Lal, Rudyard Kipling, Jane Austen, Rick Yancey, and many more people. The kind of books I would like are classics, adventure, mystery, experiences, maybe a little bit of fantasy and other things like that. I’m picturing a really weird but cool shaped bookshelf with shapes and grooves here and there to put the books in, made out of wood and something that would always keep me drawn to it. that’s the kind of book shelf I would like to have!!!
