I never listened to music, but it was an exception when my parents used to sing me lullabies before bed and I loved it. When I was about 7 years old I watched the sound of music. That was my first time I heard about music notes, different pitches, creating music and other things about music other than listening and singing. I was fascinated and from then on I always hummed the tunes from the movie and started listening to other music and started exploring other things on music. It was like that for a long time. After some time me and my parents watched another movie called Song of the sea. It was a beautiful animated movie. The songs were next level! There was a tune that caught my fathers attention and specifically an instrument… he did some research on the tune and came across this instrument. Well it’s not sure if that was the instrument used to play the tune but the ocarina caught his attention, It’s an instrument from Italy which is made from different material and it comes in different shapes and sizes and colors. It’s also from a few parts of South America.

A few days later there was a parcel that came home and I’m always excited when anything comes home! So I opened it with my father and… there was a weird shaped ceramic thing in front of me! I wasn’t interested in it so I went back to my room. Then I heard some jumbled up tunes and something that sounded like a flute to me. I went back into my parents room and my father was blowing into it! I went running to my father and snatched it out of his hands, wiped the ocarina on my fathers shirt and ran back to my room. And I started playing it . Then my father came in and gave me a chart on how to play the different pitches in the ocarina and he gave me a small copper ocarina. I have know Idea when he got the small one but it was it was really cute!

I started playing the smaller one and the first thing I learnt was all the different pitches of the ocarina and it reminded me of the movie the sound of music. So I decided I will learn my first song from that movie. I didn’t know how to read sheet music so before I learnt how to play music on the ocarina I had to learn how to read sheet music. Then my father downloaded a few music theory videos and I followed them for a while. It was going really slow and I had many places I got stuck in and didn’t know anyone who could explain my questions, It was kinda hard. Well after some research I cleared all my questions. Then I eventually got bored so I took a break for a few months. But I missed playing the ocarina so I got back to it. After some time I was doing a course on fundamentals of music theory. I started facing the same problem. I got stuck in many places and when it was time to write my exam on music theory it was really hard. So I decided to do the course cause I thought I didn’t pay enough attention. So I did it again. But I faced the same problem. I did it again after a small break but I still didn’t get everything! This was getting really annoying. So I used to go to singing classes and had learnt a few small songs from there so I started playing small tunes I knew. Finally I learnt my first song ”thousand years'' obviously i didn’t know how to read sheet music so…I learnt it by listening to the song several times and matching the pitches on the ocarina! Well that’s not the way to do it but that was a good exercise for me to practice because that will be important in the future when I wanna make my own music. Now I’m doing the course again!!! and I have people I can ask my questions to and get them answered. And I’m really glad I didn’t give up because it was hard in the beginning because I really love this instrument.
